News From African American Catholic Community
Greetings from Des Moines Iowa. I’m here, attending a four days Annual National Convention for the African Catholic Clergy and Religious in the United States. The convention was organized with the support of the U.S. Bishops Conference with the overall goal of strengthening our pastoral outreach specifically to the Africans and African American Catholics in the United States. A study from the Pew Research Center shows a small population of Black adults (6%) in the Catholic Church in the United States. We also found out that most African Catholics arriving in the U.S. join other religious denominations because they do not feel accepted in the Catholic Church. I am glad to share with you that I was re-elected for a three-year term as the National President of the African Catholic Clergy Association in the United States (ACCA) during the convention. Please keep me in your prayers that I will serve well in this responsibility entrusted to me.
Here, in our Diocese of Phoenix, I am glad to share with you that Bishop Olmsted has established a new Mission (St. Josephine Bakhitat) to serve the African American community in the Diocese. You are invited to join the opening Mass for the mission at St. Pius,
809 S. 7th Avenue, Phoenix on Sunday, August 7, 2022 at 12:00 noon. All are welcome! Bring a friend!

The block is scheduled to arrive Friday
Footings to be done by Monday

The catch basin for the east drain is scheduled to arrive on August 6th.
As we were in our construction meeting, a heavy rain storm hit St. Benedict. The footing trenches had 3 feet of water in them. This could impact the above schedule. The footings need to be inspected prior to the concrete being poured.
