Welcome to the Season of Lent starting Wednesday of next week, March 5, Ash Wednesday. The Season of Lent offers us an opportunity to review our spiritual life and plan to grow our faith and work towards spiritual renewal. I invite you and your family and friends to come and join us for the Ash Wednesday Liturgies. Masses will be at 6:30am, 8:15am, 5pm, and the last Mass at 7pm will be bilingual. We will have Liturgy of the Word with distribution of ashes at Noon.  

 

There will be two Stations of the Cross on Fridays throughout the Season of Lent. The first Stations of the Cross will be in English and held at 6pm in the Church, followed by fish fry. The second Stations of the Cross will be in Spanish and be held at 7pm in the Church. Please check the parish bulletin and website for other Lenten activities.  

 

We are now one week away from our Annual Parish Rummage Sale, coming up on Saturday, March 8, from 7am-2pm at St. John Bosco Campus. I thank the organizing team for the excellent job they are doing getting everything ready for the sale. Looking at the number of items donated so far, it looks like this will be one of our biggest rummage sales in years. I thank everyone who is helping and those who donated different items for the sale. Please invite your friends to come and join us at the event. Please come, even if you don’t intend to buy anything, come for “window shopping” and you might find at least a book or something to buy.   

 

On behalf of St. Benedict and St. John Bosco school community, I would like to thank our Events Ministry Coordinator, Lani Gore, for the beautiful parish picnic last weekend. My special thanks to our Fr. Bob Binta Knights of Columbus Council for barbecuing and providing the meals during the event. Thanks also to the children, parents and everyone who came out to enjoy the afternoon.  

 

I am glad to inform you that our St. Benedict Parish community has been voted as the Best Place to Worship in the “Best of Ahwatukee” this year. I thank all our parishioners and friends of our parish who voted to gain us this recognition. Please look forward to reading this in the next edition of the Ahwatukee newspaper.  

 

I thank all of our parishioners who participated in the CDA this year. This week’s report for the Diocesan Charity and Development Appeal (CDA) shows that 122 families from our parish community made gifts to the CDA with a total pledge of $38,656. This represents 39% of our total goal of $97,274. I thank those who have already participated and encourage those who have not yet to consider sending in their pledge or gift this week. The CDA envelopes are available in the Narthex and in the pews or go to  https://give.dphx.org/. Please give us a call in the parish office at 480.961.1610 if you have any questions or if you need help setting up your online payment. 

 

Bienvenidos al Tiempo de Cuaresma que comienza el miércoles de la próxima semana, 5 de marzo, que es el Miércoles de Ceniza. El Tiempo de Cuaresma nos ofrece la oportunidad de revisar nuestra vida espiritual y planear el crecimiento de nuestra fe y trabajar hacia la renovación espiritual. Le invito a usted y a su familia y amigos a venir y unirse a nosotros para las Liturgias del Miércoles de Ceniza. Las misas serán a las 6:30am, 8:15am, 5pm, y la última misa a las 7pm será bilingüe. Tendremos Liturgia de la Palabra con distribución de cenizas al Mediodía. 

  

 Habrá dos Estaciones de la Cruz los viernes a través de la Temporada de Cuaresma. El primer Vía Crucis será en inglés y tendrá lugar a las 6pm en la Iglesia, seguido de la cena de pescado. El segundo Vía Crucis será en español y se celebrará a las 7pm en la Iglesia. Por favor, consulte el boletín de la parroquia y el sitio web para otras actividades de Cuaresma. 

  

Ahora estamos a una semana de nuestra Venta Anual de “Mercadillo” Parroquial, que tendrá lugar el sábado del próximo fin de semana, 8 de marzo, de 7am-2pm en el Campus de San Juan Bosco. Agradezco al equipo organizador por el excelente trabajo que están haciendo, preparando todo para la venta. Viendo el número de artículos donados hasta ahora, parece que este será uno de nuestros mayores mercadillos en años. Doy las gracias a todos los que están ayudando y los que donaron diferentes artículos para la venta. Por favor, invita a tus amigos a venir y unirse a nosotros en el evento. Por favor, venga, incluso si usted no tiene intención de comprar nada, venga a «mirar escaparates» y es posible que usted encuentre al menos un libro para comprar y así ayudar a la iglesia.  

  

 En nombre de la comunidad de St Benedict y St John Bosco, me gustaría agradecer a nuestra Coordinadora del Ministerio de Eventos, Lani Gore, por el hermoso picnic parroquial del fin de semana pasado. Mi agradecimiento especial a nuestro Consejo de Caballeros de Colón del Padre Bob Binta por preparar los alimentos y proveer las comida durante el evento. Gracias también a los niños, padres y a todos los que vinieron a disfrutar de la tarde.
