I invite you and your family and friends to come and join us for our parish Lenten Mission/Retreat from Thursday to Saturday next week, March 20-22. The Lenten retreat gives us an opportunity to take a break from our daily routine to nourish our faith and deepen our personal relationship with the Lord. The retreat theme is: “Journey through the Desert, Journey to Calvary, and Journey to Heaven.” 

The retreat will be directed by Fr. Stephen Maria Lopez, OP. Fr. Lopez is a Dominican Friar of the Province of the Most Holy Name of Jesus. Since 2018, he has served as Master of Students, overseeing the formation of young friars preparing for ministry as Dominican priests and cooperator brothers. After graduating from Loyola Marymount University, he worked in corporate accounting before entering the Order of Preachers in 2002. What attracted Fr. Stephen Maria to the Dominicans was their dedication to Truth contemplated in prayer and study, lived out in religious life, and shared with others through preaching and teaching. Ordained in 2010, he has also served as parochial vicar, prior, provincial treasurer, and director of vocations. An itinerant soul, Fr. Lopez enjoys hiking, traveling, and learning new languages.

On the same note, I am happy to announce that we will be having our very first St. Benedict Spanish Lenten Mission/Retreat here in our community from March 31st to April 2nd. The retreat will be directed by Martin Zavala. I am excited to inform you that we are getting closer to seeing our dream of having the St. Benedict Senior Living Facility a reality. I invite all our parishioners to come and join us for an information night on Monday, March 24 at 6:30pm in the St. John Bosco Multipurpose Room, (MPR). We had a very successful Rummage Sale last Saturday.  I am glad to share with you that we made a net income of $9,200 during the sale. This fund is highly needed to support the parish operations. I thank Denny and Gayle Stewart and the organizing team for the amazing teamwork in planning and organizing the event. My special thank you to the many volunteers who spent countless hours collecting, organizing, setting up, feeding volunteers, and helping sell the items. To everyone that supported the event by donating items, thank you!  This was a truly special community event, and I cannot thank you all enough for your continued support.

On behalf of the parish community, I thank Tracy Ryan for her excellent leadership in coordinating the hosting of Family Promise here in our community through this week. I also thank our parishioners who signed up to co-host and all those who supported our guests with donations of food and drinks. My special thanks to our Fr. Bob Binta Knights of Columbus Council for helping with the set-up and tear down. Our guests arrived last Sunday and will be leaving this Sunday.  

Te invito a ti, a tu familia y a tus amigos a unirse a nosotros en nuestra Misión/Retiro Cuaresmal parroquial, que se llevará a cabo del jueves 20 al sábado 22 de marzo. El retiro cuaresmal nos permite hacer una pausa en nuestra rutina diaria para nutrir nuestra fe y profundizar nuestra relación personal con el Señor. El tema del retiro es: “Camino por el Desierto, Camino al Calvario y Camino al Cielo”.

El retiro será dirigido por el Padre Stephen Maria López, OP. El P. López es un fraile dominico de la Provincia del Santísimo Nombre de Jesús. Desde 2018, ha servido como Maestro de Estudiantes, supervisando la formación de jóvenes frailes que se preparan para el ministerio como sacerdotes dominicos y hermanos cooperadores. Después de graduarse de la Universidad Loyola Marymount, trabajó en contabilidad corporativa antes de ingresar a la Orden de Predicadores en 2002. Lo que atrajo al P. Stephen Maria a los dominicos fue su dedicación a la Verdad, la contemplación en la oración y el estudio, vividos en la vida religiosa y compartidos con los demás a través de la predicación y la enseñanza. Ordenado en 2010, también ha servido como vicario parroquial, prior, tesorero provincial y director de vocaciones. De espíritu itinerante, al P. López le encanta hacer senderismo, viajar y aprender nuevos idiomas.

Me emociona compartir con ustedes que estamos cada vez más cerca de hacer realidad nuestro sueño de contar con una Residencia para Adultos Mayores San Benito. Invito a todos nuestros feligreses a unirse a nosotros en una noche de información el lunes 24 de marzo a las 6:30 p.m. en el Salón Multiusos de St. John Bosco (MPR). El Sr. Bart Shea, de Acanthus Senior Living, estará presente para proporcionarnos información actualizada y responder cualquier pregunta que puedan tener. Tuvimos una venta de artículos usados muy exitosa el pasado sábado. Me alegra compartir con ustedes que obtuvimos un ingreso neto de $9,200 durante la venta. Estos fondos son de gran ayuda para el sostenimiento de las operaciones parroquiales. Agradezco a Denny y Gayle Stewart, junto con el equipo organizador, por su increíble trabajo en la planificación y ejecución del evento. Un agradecimiento especial a todos los voluntarios que dedicaron innumerables horas recolectando, organizando, montando, alimentando a los voluntarios y ayudando en la venta. A todos los que apoyaron el evento con donaciones, ¡muchas gracias! Fue un evento verdaderamente especial para nuestra comunidad, y no puedo agradecerles lo suficiente por su continuo apoyo.

En nombre de la comunidad parroquial, agradezco a Tracy Ryan por su excelente liderazgo en la coordinación de la acogida del programa Family Promise en nuestra comunidad esta semana. También agradezco a nuestros feligreses que se inscribieron como coanfitriones y a todos los que apoyaron a nuestros invitados con donaciones de alimentos y bebidas. Un agradecimiento especial a nuestro Consejo de los Caballeros de Colón P. Bob Binta, por ayudar con la instalación y desmontaje. Nuestros invitados llegaron el pasado domingo y partirán este domingo.
