Dear Brethren,

I would like to begin on a note of gratitude by thanking everyone who contributed in one way or another to make this year’s Christmas and New Year festivities very memorable in our parish. I would like to specially thank members of the Altar Society of our parish and their families for their sacrifice and generosity which gave us a well decorated Church for the season. I thank them for sacrificing time and work to take down the decorations so we can properly immerse ourselves into the ordinary time of the liturgical calendar. I hope that plans are already in place to make the appropriate changes in mid February as we prepare to enter into the Holy season of Lent. Many thanks to all other ministries who contributed in no less measure in providing a wonderful Christmas season for all our parishioners.

On the 20th of January, we shall be marking the second anniversary of the dedication of our beautiful Church. May I use this medium to invite all our parishioners to please join us as we celebrate the dedication of our Church.

Central to the life of every Catholic is the Sacrament of the Holy Eucharist which is the true body and blood of our Lord Jesus Christ, together with His Soul and Divinity, under the appearance of bread and wine. As believers, we ought to ensure that this essential aspect of our Catholic faith is given the utmost respect and reverence it deserves. It is Christ Himself who comes to be and remains present in our Eucharistic celebrations be it at mass or at Eucharistic Adoration and even when His body is taken to the sick who are unable to physically join us at mass. There is concern that continuing our practice of administering the Eucharist in both species to everyone who is ready to receive Christ in the Eucharist may have the unintended consequence of irreverence. We have observed occasional spillage of the precious Blood of Christ on the vestments of our altar servers who are mostly minors. Our understanding is that this happens because the precious Blood is administered to our servers when the chalices are quite full. Given that the rubrics do not make the reception of the Eucharist in both species obligatory for all the faithful, we will administer only the Body of Christ to our altar servers and not the precious blood, during mass. Let us remember that the whole Christ is present in one species as He is in the other in the Holy Eucharist. No one misses anything if they receive Jesus only in one species during or even after the mass. Our brothers and sisters who cannot come to mass but have communion taken to them in one species do not receive “less of Christ” than those of us who are physically present and receive communion in both species. I encourage you to read about the Catholic Doctrine of Concomitance. 

This painful decision is being considered for the right reason of ensuring due reverence to the sacrament of the Holy Eucharist which is central to our Catholic life. We appeal to you to please understand us.

Me gustaría comenzar expresando mi agradecimiento a todos los que contribuyeron de una u otra manera a que las fiestas de Navidad y Año Nuevo de este año fueran muy memorables en nuestra parroquia. Quisiera dar las gracias especialmente a los miembros de la Sociedad del Altar de nuestra parroquia y a sus familias por su sacrificio y generosidad, que nos permitieron disfrutar de una iglesia muy bien decorada durante estas fiestas. Les agradezco que hayan sacrificado su tiempo y trabajo para retirar los adornos, de modo que podamos sumergirnos adecuadamente en el tiempo ordinario del calendario litúrgico. Espero que ya se hayan hecho planes para realizar los cambios oportunos a mediados de febrero, mientras nos preparamos para entrar en el tiempo santo de la Cuaresma. Muchas gracias a todos los demás ministerios que contribuyeron en igual medida a proporcionar una maravillosa temporada navideña a todos nuestros feligreses.

El 20 de enero celebraremos el segundo aniversario de la consagración de nuestra hermosa iglesia. Me gustaría aprovechar este medio para invitar a todos nuestros feligreses a que se unan a nosotros para celebrar la consagración de nuestra iglesia.

El sacramento de la Sagrada Eucaristía, que es el verdadero cuerpo y sangre de nuestro Señor Jesucristo, junto con su alma y divinidad, bajo la apariencia de pan y vino, es fundamental en la vida de todo católico. Como creyentes, debemos asegurarnos de que este aspecto esencial de nuestra fe católica reciba el máximo respeto y reverencia que se merece. Es Cristo mismo quien viene y permanece presente en nuestras celebraciones eucarísticas, ya sea en la misa o en la adoración eucarística, e incluso cuando su cuerpo es llevado a los enfermos que no pueden unirse físicamente a nosotros en la misa. Existe la preocupación de que continuar con nuestra práctica de administrar la Eucaristía en ambas especies a todos los que están preparados para recibir a Cristo en la Eucaristía pueda tener la consecuencia involuntaria de la irreverencia. Hemos observado ocasionales derrames de la preciosa Sangre de Cristo sobre las vestiduras de nuestros monaguillos, que en su mayoría son menores de edad. Entendemos que esto ocurre porque la Preciosísima Sangre se administra a nuestros monaguillos cuando los cálices están bastante llenos. Dado que las rúbricas no obligan a todos los fieles a recibir la Eucaristía bajo las dos especies, durante la misa solo administraremos el Cuerpo de Cristo a nuestros monaguillos y no la Preciosísima Sangre. Recordemos que Cristo está presente en su totalidad en una de las especies, al igual que en la otra, en la Sagrada Eucaristía. Nadie se pierde nada si recibe a Jesús solo en una especie durante o incluso después de la misa. Nuestros hermanos y hermanas que no pueden asistir a misa, pero a quienes se les lleva la comunión en una sola especie, no reciben «menos de Cristo» que aquellos de nosotros que estamos físicamente presentes y recibimos la comunión en ambas especies. Les animo a que lean sobre la doctrina católica de la concomitancia. 

Esta dolorosa decisión se está considerando por la razón correcta de garantizar la debida reverencia al sacramento de la Sagrada Eucaristía, que es fundamental en nuestra vida católica. Les pedimos que nos comprendan.
