Dear Brethren,

We are now in the Lenten Season.  I would like to thank all those involved in helping with our Ash Wednesday masses and service. I am glad to see they were well attended.  It was a great way to begin our Lenten journey towards Christ's resurrection.

If you have made plans to grow closer to God this season, now is a great time to pivot from "planning" to "practicing." Whether it's adding five minutes of silent prayer in the morning or going to daily mass, it is never too late to start a holy habit.  Lent is intended for inner conversion. It is a time to renounce sin, strengthen one's faith through self-denial and prepare to renew baptismal promises at Easter. 

The Stations of the Cross is another great devotion during Lent.  I look forward to seeing many of you this evening. We shall have the Stations in English at 6:00 pm, Stations in Spanish at 7:00 pm, and not to forget, fish dinner at 6:30 pm.

I would like to use this medium to remind all of us that we have a shared responsibility to care for each other.  This includes preventing any spread of illness especially contagious viruses by staying home when one is ill.  We will have hand sanitizers at the church entrance to also help with prevention.  I thank you for your understanding and patience.

I would like to thank Deacon Ed and Frank Polimene for installing the handrails at the altar. They spent many hours installing them and they look great.  More importantly, I hope the handrails help those who need some assistance in getting to the altar. This Saturday happens to be Frank's 80th birthday.  We wish him a happy birthday and we thank God for Frank and his wonderful service to this parish community.

Thank you to all those who already made their gift to the CDA.  I am happy to share that we are getting closer to our goal but we are not there yet!   We have so far reached 77% of our goal in gifts and 55% in the number of donors. This weekend, we will hear from our Finance Council members as they speak briefly about CDA.  I thank them for giving their time to speak about this great appeal that helps so many in our Diocese and beyond.

Queridos hermanos,

Ahora estamos en la temporada de Cuaresma.  Me gustaría dar las gracias a todos los que han colaborado en las misas y servicio del Miércoles de Ceniza. Me alegra ver que han tenido una gran asistencia.  Ha sido una forma estupenda de comenzar nuestro camino cuaresmal hacia la resurrección de Cristo.

Si has hecho planes para acercarte más a Dios durante esta temporada, ahora es un buen momento para pasar de «planificar» a «practicar». Ya sea añadiendo cinco minutos de oración silenciosa por la mañana o yendo a misa todos los días, nunca es demasiado tarde para empezar un hábito sagrado. La Cuaresma está destinada a la conversión interior. Es un tiempo para renunciar al pecado, fortalecer la fe a través de la abnegación y prepararse para renovar las promesas bautismales en Pascua.

El Vía Crucis es otra gran devoción durante la Cuaresma. Espero ver a muchos de ustedes esta noche. Tendremos el Vía Crucis en inglés a las 6:00 p. m., el Vía Crucis en español a las 7:00 p. m. y, sin olvidar, la cena de pescado a las 6:30 p. m.

Me gustaría aprovechar este medio para recordarles a todos que tenemos la responsabilidad compartida de cuidarnos unos a otros.  Esto incluye prevenir la propagación de enfermedades, especialmente de virus contagiosos, quedándonos en casa cuando estamos enfermos.  Tendremos desinfectante de manos en la entrada de la iglesia para ayudar también con la prevención.  Les agradezco su comprensión y paciencia.

Me gustaría dar las gracias al diácono Ed y a Frank Polimene por instalar los pasamanos en el altar. Han dedicado muchas horas a instalarlos y han quedado estupendos.  Y lo que es más importante, espero que los pasamanos ayuden a quienes necesitan algo de ayuda para llegar al altar. Este sábado es el 80.º cumpleaños de Frank.  Le deseamos un feliz cumpleaños y damos gracias a Dios por Frank y por su maravilloso servicio a esta comunidad parroquial.

Gracias a todos los que ya han hecho su donación a la CDA. Me complace compartir que nos estamos acercando a nuestro objetivo, ¡pero aún no lo hemos alcanzado!   Hasta ahora hemos alcanzado el 77 % de nuestro objetivo en donaciones y el 55 % en número de donantes. Este fin de semana, escucharemos a los miembros de nuestro Consejo de Finanzas, que hablarán brevemente sobre la CDA. Les agradezco que dediquen su tiempo a hablar sobre esta gran iniciativa que ayuda a tantas personas en nuestra diócesis y más allá.
