Dear Friends,
Ascension of the Lord
Ordinarily, the Feast of the Ascension of the Lord is celebrated forty days after Easter which falls on the Thursday of the sixth week of Easter. However, the Universal Church allows Dioceses to move the feast to the Sunday that follows the Thursday of Ascension in order to lend the feast the solemnity that Sunday the day of the Lord has. The Diocese of Phoenix is one of such Dioceses and so we celebrate the Ascension of the Lord this weekend. it is our earnest prayer that Jesus, who by His glorious ascension into heaven has opened its gates for us to follow, may mercifully welcome us into His Kingdom when our pilgrimage on earth is completed. Happy Ascension Sunday.
Pentecost Sunday.
Closely following the Ascension Sunday, and fifty days after Easter, is the solemn commemoration of the day of which the Holy Spirit descended upon the Apostles. Acts of the Apostles confirms that it happened on the day of Pentecost. On this day, the Church commemorates her humble but powerful beginning as the Advocate promised by Jesus who came down on the Apostles to animate them in their quest to fulfil the mandate given to them by Jesus to make disciples of all nations. Like the early Church, we are all encouraged to wait in prayer for the outpouring of the Holy Spirit who will prompt and guide us to fearlessly proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ. We encourage you to join the Novena to the Holy Spirit and pray with the Church as we await His coming.

“.....do this in memory of me.” (1 Cor 11:24.) The day of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ (also known as Corpus Christi) is a liturgical solemnity celebrating the real presence of Christ in the Holy Eucharist celebrated in the Catholic Church and a few other Western Orthodox Churches. Where the Solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ is not a Holy Day of Obligation, it is assigned to the Sunday after the Most Holy Trinity as its proper day. This year, the Solemnity shall be celebrated on Jun 7, 2026. At St. Benedict, as is customary in many places where the feast is celebrated, we would like to have a short Eucharistic procession which will terminate with a Benediction after the 5pm Mass on Sunday, June 7. During the Mass, which will begin at 5pm on Sunday, we shall commission newly trained Extraordinary Ministers of the Holy Eucharist who have responded positively to the needs of the parish. We would encourage only those who feel confident enough to withstand the expected heat to join us during the short procession. Those who are not so confident about withstanding the heat can wait for us to join them in the Church for Benediction after the procession. Please invite your friends to come join us as we adore Jesus in a Eucharistic procession at St. Benedict. Water will be provided to keep us hydrated. We look forward to seeing you and your family.
Please be kind and may God bless you.

Queridos amigos:
